The Making of Lost in the Woods
Sisbro Presentations:
This assembly shows the creative process behind the book Lost in the Woods, by Carl R.Sams II and Jean Stoick, as well as a few highlights of how we turned the book into a movie.
How does an idea turn into a final product? You'll hear the best secrets and stories about creating the springtime tale, such as finding the animals in the woods, changing/rewriting the story and choosing pictures for the book.
And we make it interactive! We use video clips, live music, animal voices and even a game show to bring the creative process to life. (You'll probably also hear Robert talk like a chipmunk or a mother goose along the way.)
Does this assembly relate to our curriculum?
Our program helps elementary students:
- Recognize that authors make choices as they convey meaning and influence an audience. Examples include word selection, use of illustrations, etc.
- Begin to develop and use strategies for planning, drafting, revising and editing a variety of text forms.
- Identify and use aspects of the craft of the speaker, writer and illustrator to formulate and express ideas artistically. Examples include design, perspective and dialogue.
- Experience how science concepts can be interpreted through creative expression, such as language arts and fine arts.
