Lost in the Woods is Parent's Choice Recommended Award Winner
Review from Parent's Choice -- You'd never know it by its rather modest packaging and cutesy title, but this is a gem that young children will find funny and “naturally” educational. Based on the photographic picture book of the same name, Lost in the Woods combines swingin' music and video of forest animals and vegetation.
However, the most surprisingly element is the humor, springing from footage of real animals synced up with the voices of actors who make the forest creatures into a cavalcade of culturally diverse characters (including a joke-telling tadpole) who spout one-liners better than most stand-up comics. The movie begins with a box turtle named Shirley who helps a lost raccoon called Fernando Hernandafandavez discover the inner life of the woods.
Shirley's explanation leads to a story about a similarly lost creature, a fawn, who is the center of the picture book that is the film's inspiration. As the fawn wakes up alone in the forest she soon learns about patience and what awaits in the miraculous world around her. A wholesome and charming DVD treat worth viewing. -- Reviewed by Gregory Keer
