Sisbro Wins Parents' Choice GOLD Award
Portland, OR - April 30, 2011 - Sisbro Studios' latest wildlife film First Snow in the Woods, based on the best-selling children's book by Carl R. Sams II and Jean Stoick, has won a Parents' Choice Gold Award for DVDs.
Parents' Choice Awards is the nation's oldest nonprofit program created to recognize quality children's media. The Parents' Choice Awards program honors the best material for children: books, toys, music and storytelling, magazines, software, videogames, television and websites. Parents' Choice Foundation's panels of educators, scientists, performing artists, librarians, parents and, yes, kids themselves, identify the very best products for children of different ages and backgrounds, and of varied skill and interest levels.
"Stunning animal and nature footage . . . a live-action feat of photography with humor and charm to spare," said Gina Catanzarite, who is a writer, teacher and winner of six Emmy awards. "The animals take on real personalities thanks to amusing voice-overs, clever editing, and smart cinematography. Dialogue is witty, the sight-gags are amusing, the music is memorable, and it pays off with the happiest of happy endings!"
The Parents' Choice Awards committees look for products that entertain and teach with flair, stimulate imagination and inspire creativity. Judges are interested in how a product helps a child grow: socially, intellectually, emotionally, ethically, physically. Adhering to rigorous standards, Parents' Choice honors material that respects a child's age, interests and abilities, and adheres to universal human values. The Parents' Choice Awards Committees look for products that close the Generation Gap. They look for material to help parents and kids connect.
"We try very hard to create programs that adults and children will enjoy together on different levels, so I am absolutely thrilled to be honored by the Parents' Choice jurors," said co-director Laura Sams.
Other Gold winners include The Day the Music Stopped from the Juno Company, and Timmy Time: Timmy Steals the Show from Lionsgate Entertainment. Parents' Choice also awarded several silver and recommended DVDs, which included Wordgirl: Tricks and Treats from Scholastic Media and Dora the Explorer: Dora's Big Birthday Adventure from Nickelodeon Home Entertainment
"It's nice to receive Gold level recognition amongst such great competition, said co-director Robert Sams. "We spent two years capturing footage of animals in the vivid fall season of Michigan, and we worked hard on the original music."
First Snow in the Woods is the third movie in the award-winning "In the Woods" series, based on the best-selling children's books. In a pumpkin patch surrounded by the reds and golds of fall, a worried scarecrow watches the animals prepare for winter. The scarecrow worries another season will pass without scaring a single crow - or meeting the beautiful lady scarecrow across the field. But then a sweet mouse moves into his straw-filled heart, tells him the story of First Snow in the Woods and helps him trust the changing seasons.
