Sisbro Studios was founded in 2001 by the sister/brother creative team of Laura Sams and Robert Sams, whose dream was to create science-based films, books, music, educational media and curriculum that help people discover the natural world.
Laura and Rob set out to create stories so clever, funny, beautiful and catchy that people can't help but share them again and again. Their work has been honored with over 50 international awards, including a Wildscreen Panda Award (which is often called the "Green Oscars"), a KIDS FIRST! Best of the Year Award, a National Parenting Publications (NAPPA) Gold Award, Parents' Choice GOLD and many more. They have also performed live author/filmmaker visits in venues from the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in D.C. to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to international schools in Dubai, UAE.
Can you hire Sisbro? Yes! We do freelance media production, writing, music composition, photography, curriculum development and more. We LOVE to create good stories.
The Smithsonian Channel
We wrote, directed, edited and composed original music for this music video, which was designed to help promote The Smithsonian Channel's TV Special about the Titanoboa Snake.
National Science Foundation's Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network
We wrote, directed, filmed and edited this short comedic look at the rise and fall of "Invisibility Cloaks," as a way of thinking about how society uses technology. It was reviewed by The Atlantic as "more than cute . . . a smart consideration"
Save Our Seas Foundation
Rice University's STEMScopes
We are composing around 20 original songs about science curriculum topics for kindergarten through middle school, to be included as part of online STEM curriculum. Here's an example of our Fruit Fly Heredity and Gravity Songs.
Oregon Museum of Science and Industry
We have created films and media for in-house exhibits, including the Brainstorm Exhibit (featuring Oregon's best innovators) and The Willamette River Exhibit (featuring wildlife footage as part of an interactive game show). We also created commercials for the Sherlock Holmes traveling exhibition.
Prichard Communications/Reclaiming Futures
We filmed and created a series of videos that highlighted teens who had been to jail, but had achieved amazing success through the Reclaiming Futures program.
"In the Woods" Film Trilogy
We created a trilogy of films based on the New York Times Best Selling children's books Stranger in the Woods, Lost in the Woods and First Snow in the Woods.
We truly believe our own productions are unique. Certainly a sister and brother working happily together is somewhat unique, but here is what you can expect from a Sisbro production. We believe learning is an adventure, through revelation and discovery, and our productions and programs will be known for:
- High-quality images
- A sense of humor
- Creative (and we mean creative) approaches
- Attention to learning theory and innovative ways to make our productions avenues for active learning (e.g., through age-appropriate story lines, teacher resource packets, educational assemblies, etc.)
We are honored to be able to share our ideas and talents with you. To prove that we really are a sister and brother, take a look at the photo to the right. If we remember correctly, we lived in Indiana at the time of this picture. Laura is around 13 years old, and Rob is around 11 years old. If you meet us in person now, you'll notice that Laura no longer hairsprays her bangs into an immovable mass, and Robert no longer cinches his pants up quite as high.
